Masthead- On this magazine contents page it has no masthead. This doesn’t stick to common conventions as the magazine should have its masthead in the top left hand corner so that the audience can always see it and recognise it. However the magazine does have a picture of the front cover in the top left, which has the masthead on it however this breaks the common conventions of a magazine. This image is also very small making it harder to remember when the audience are reading the magazine. The contents page is one of the most important pages of the magazine as it helps the audience identify what pages they want to read about.
Layout- This content page is laid out with three images, a big one for the main pages of the magazine and two smaller ones that are less important in the magazine. They also have text down the left hand side which is good as the audience will read the text left to right thus making them always end up at the images after reading the text. It has bold titles with a brief explanation underneath which makes it easier for the audience to find what topic they are looking for.
Images- The images of the contents page are laid out really well as when you read about the magazine piece it always leads you to the image of the models. The main image is the biggest and is very well taken medium shot. Her shadow is behind her on the wall which makes her stand out from her surroundings. We can also see her whole figure which links in with Laura Mulvey’s theory that ‘males see women as objects of desire’. This can be said for this photo. They also have page numbers on the images which help the audience know which page to flick too to read about it.
Colours- The main colours of this piece are black and white. The background is white with the text being black; this helps the text stand out from the background. The word ‘contents’ at the top of the page is yellow however; this makes it stand out from the rest and helps the audience to know what the page is. The yellow writing will be the first thing they read as well as it is in the top left corner. There is also pink writing which splits up the sections. This makes it easier for the readers as they can see which sections they might be interested in.
Typography- For the text there are many different size fonts and different colours. The main fonts for the title are in bold which makes them stand out more and makes the audience read them first. There is also text underneath the bold titles which gives the reader information about the section this makes it easier as the reader can work out that there is different sections. The page numbers are also very big which makes it easier for the reader to know which page to turn to for that section.
Masthead- On this magazine contents page it has no masthead. This doesn’t stick to common conventions as the magazine should have its masthead in the top left hand corner so that the audience can always see it and recognise it. This magazine doesn't have an image of the front cover either so it is very hard to find out what magazine it is from. It does have the date which tells the audience what time it was published and also has a massive contents word in the top left where the masthead should be. This helps the audience recognise it to be the contents page.
Layout- The lay out of the text is very good as it is all down one side which makes it easier to read. There is also the contents word at the top helping the audience. However there is only one main image not giving the audience a varried look at the magazine from the inside. There is also a big block of writing underneath the image which doesn't stick to common conventions and is not needed as that text should be on the feature page. The text has bold titles with a black background on a white background which makes it stand out.
Images- The image is poorly taken as the model isn't even looking at the audience this doesn't relate to the audience. There is a page number on the image which makes it easier for the audience to find the information they are looking for. Unlike the other magazine this one can't be related to Laura Mulvey as we can't really see her full figure and isn't there for an object of desire. The image has her shadow behind it as well which makes her stand out from the wall.
Colours- The main colours on the contents page are red, black and white which is very unisex that makes the magaine for both genders. The word contents is big at the top in white writing on a black background like most of the text which makes it stand out for the reader. There is also red backgrounds for the different sections in the text. I really like this idea as it makes it easier for the reader being split up in to different sections.
Typography- The texts are different sizes showing the reader the most important sections in the magazine. The main fonts are bold which makes the reader see them first. There is other text underneath the titles but smaller thus giving the audience more information. There are page numbers as well which helps the audience find the pages they want to read.
