Research into music photography

Music photographer
I have decided to look at a music photographer to gain a better understanding of the genre of music photography industry. The leading photographer may have worked for Kerrang, Metal Head, Q, etc.

Mick Hutson
Over the last two decades Mick Hutson has become one of the most respected photographers in his field. He has worked for Q magazine and Metal Hammer whilst capturing images of U2, Coldplay, Muse and many more.

Kings of Leon image
Here is an image that Mick Hutson toke of ‘kings of Leon’ I really like this image for a number of reasons. The first reason is because of the setting, it is set on a road in an industrial state, and this links the band to the target audience of teenagers because they just look like there hang around like the stereotypical youth. This could also link it to Dick Hedbridge’s quote “youth as fun, youth as a trouble maker” as they are on an industrial state and could be up to trouble. The shot is very well taken from a light perspective as their shadows are pointing behind them. If the image was poorly taken the shadows could be coming forward, which could make the lighting worse. The star vehicle works well however if your not a big ‘kings of Leon’ fan you won’t know what they look like. They also represent youth for another reason; this is the way that they are stood. They are stood with bent knees and with hands in pockets thus representing the youth stereotype. The road behind the ‘kings of Leon’ could connote that it is the road to nowhere, as we can’t see where the road is leading.
